Monday Night Open Mic

Howdy Blog O’Doomers.

Well that was an eventful Summerslam! The good news is that there was a spirited debate between which of the two designated feature matches was better. That’s always a good thing. FWIW I think Punk-Lesnar was the best of the WWE style we’re used to while Cena-Bryan went a total different direction and the running knee finisher was amazing. Of course it was used because Cena isn’t going to submit to the Yes Lock, but it was still miles better than a roll up or a small package.

I give a lot of credit to Cena too. I hate the character, he’s boring, he’s goofy, but he GETS it. He understands the big event and damn if doesn’t deliver the goods as a worker when he knows the spotlight is on him.

Where do we go from here. Who the hell knows to be honest. I think we’re all hoping Daniel Bryan gets his chase and gets his reward but in the back of our minds we’re also thinking…’this is really set up for Super Cena to return from injury and save the WWE from the HHH-Orton regime’. Be honest, we all have that fear and in reality this whole alignment sets itself up more for Punk or Cena than Bryan. Punk is the established anti-establishment guy and Cena is the superhero. Daniel Bryan is a great wrestler that wants to be respected and appreciated for his wrestling ability. I don’t see how he fits going against the McMahon machine in long-term booking. As Bret Hart proved one can only take the ‘I’ve been screwed’ stuff so far before people get sick of it.

I’m curious of HHH in this role too. I know he wanted to be a heel for a long time but he will NEVER be Mr. McMahon and him trying to channel that role will look like a cheap imitation of the real thing.

As for Orton, some of you may hate this but I liked his ring work as a face. I think he’s a good worker. As a heel I always thought he worked in slow motion. His pacing was horrible. I mean seriously he moved like Andre. So I’m hopeful he’ll take the good things he was developing during the last three years working as a face and keep them in his move set.

So with that being said, enjoy the show and come out swinging but, like always, try to keep it clean.
