Breaking down the I Quit match

By Scott Keith on August 19, 2013

> I'm not totally sure on this, but I think basically all the important I Quit matches have involved trying to get a submission by non-traditional means (Weapon based beatdowns, weapon-assisted submission holds, threats to cause severe injury via weapon attack, etc). What would be your opinion if, in a years time, Daniel Bryan and CM Punk have an I Quit match that changes it up a bit. Basically, I'd imagine it would start as a straight-up submission match for the first 20-25 minutes, then after the Yes Lock reversed to Anaconda Vice reversed to Koji Clutch reversed to MMA Powerbomb from Guard spot or whatever epic reversal sequence they come up with, they get desperate for the win and then go to the hardcore beatdown ONLY because the normal tactics haven't worked.

> What say you? That was kind of the story of the Bret v Austin match, wasn't it? Bret couldn't win by heroic means so he turned into the thing he hated most to win.
