QOTD – August 12, 2013

Greetings.

With the return of Breaking Bad last night, I thought it apropos for this question from Mark Haas. A fine question, too.

Caliber, What’s going on man? QOTD is a regular cure for my work time boredom so lets keep it going. Love the movie/TV stuff you’ve posted, so here’s a question I don’t think anyone’s asked yet…
Its a broad question, but whos your favorite movie or television character? There’s so many but I’m gonna go with George Costanza. There’s just so many classic Costsnza moments, the rye bread, “the jerk store called”, KoKo the monkey, etc. I love Larry Davids character on Curb (maybe because he’s Costanza) Cartman, and Denzel in Training Day, but Costanza is my favorite simply because he had so many memorable lines/scenes.

Movie or TV? Man, that’s almost an infinite number. I’m just going to go with TV for now.

Al Bundy. Al is the everyman. The guy who had a bright, fleeting moment of glory and had to live off it for the rest of his life because while the Gods would smile upon him, it’s only because they were laughing. He’s a total old-school bad-ass that wants nothing more than steak, TV, and at times, a hooker. He doesn’t take shit from anyone, and he never gives up. There’s an episode in which Al goes back to his old elementary school to return a book that’s about 30 years over-due. The librarian there is the same one from when he was a child, and goes off on him for being a loser. He retorts with the fact that he isn’t, because no matter what life throws at him, he’s never ended it. He keeps soldiering on, and that’s what makes him so damn endearing. Plus he has a family that while openly stating their disdain for him, at the end of the day they’d go to war against the entire World in the name of Bundy.

As I think about it, John McClane is probably my favorite movie character. Just about as cool as a guy gets, and he’s always down to stomp some serious ass, no matter how hungover he is, or how much said person could talk about men’s fashions & industrialization all day.
