Scott,
Thanks for taking my questions. Reading some wrestling books during my time off from school and wanted to get some more detail on WWF 96-97 if possible. How close was Vince to actually shutting down? Paraphrasing, everything says "pretty damn close.". Is that exaggerated or a legit estimate.
Tool your advice and watched some 97 Raws on YouTube – they seem great. Was WWF tanking simply because Nitro was so hot or were people just not into the WWF product? sorry if these are redundant questions but this time period seems fascinating but was before I got into wrestling. Thanks
Look at it this way: We don't have access to their financial records, but a few months after Bret got banished to WCW because Vince couldn't afford a million dollar a year contract due his financial woes, he paid Mike Tyson MILLIONS to appear at one show. Vince was pretty much full of shit and could have survived for many years by letting a few more guys go to WCW.
And WWF wasn't really "tanking", they were just on the end point of a downswing, but Nitro was gigantically hot. RAW's ratings then were roughly equivalent to what they're doing now.
